Local operation

AstroLab does not require an account and includes neither advertising nor advertising analytics. Preferences, saved places, search caches and counters used to space rating suggestions are stored on your device. They are not sent to an AstroLab server.

Optional location and sensors

With your permission, location is used to calculate the visible sky. Motion sensors orient the view and are processed on your device. When you use your location while connected to the Internet, the application may send coordinates rounded to three decimal places and the language to Photon (komoot) to identify a nearby city. This is still roughly hundred-metre precision, not anonymisation. You can deny location access and choose a place manually.

Online services

Place search sends the entered search text and language to komoot’s Photon service. Orbital updates may contact CelesTrak. These services also receive technical connection information, including the IP address. The website is hosted by Vercel, which processes technical browsing requests. Providers may retain logs under their own policies; AstroLab does not set their retention periods.

Contact, links and sharing

If you contact support, your address and message are processed to answer your request through Gmail. Only send necessary information. External websites and applications you choose for sharing follow their own policies. Generated discovery links do not include your location.

Feedback handling

The guided form prepares a local draft: it sends nothing to AstroLab. You then choose to send it through your email app, copy it or download the file. The draft includes the information you entered and the website version at report time (which may differ from the version affected by the problem); no location, API key or browsing history is added automatically.

Emmanuel Asfar uses incoming messages to reply and track improvements, based on his legitimate interest in providing support. AI tools, including ChatGPT, may help classify feedback, summarise it and prepare replies. Unnecessary contact details and personal information are removed before excerpts are provided to these tools; replies remain his responsibility. Correspondence is not published without your agreement and does not subscribe you to a mailing list.

Support correspondence is kept during handling and for up to twelve months after the last exchange, except where applicable legal obligations require otherwise. A technical summary without contact details may be kept to track fixes. You can request access, correction, deletion or object to processing using the address below. Discussions you publish on an external forum also follow that forum’s rules.

Your choices

You can revoke permissions in system settings, use AstroLab offline and clear local data by removing website or application data. To request access, correction or deletion of support correspondence, contact contact@astrolab.academy. You may also contact your competent data protection authority, including the CNIL in France.

Optional donations

The donation link opens the official MSF fundraiser on collecter.msf.fr, which handles payments under its own privacy rules. AstroLab receives neither payment details nor donor identities. No external fundraising widget is loaded in this version. “I donated” only stores a one-year reminder pause on your device; it does not confirm a payment or contribute to the donation total.
