Why a planet does not fall

A fall that continues around the Sun

Gravity bends a path that would otherwise be straight. With enough sideways speed, a body remains in orbit.

Why explore it?

In the two-body model, bound orbits are ellipses. The Sun lies at one focus, not necessarily at the center.
